What is Photo-Fictions?

January 17, 2008
UCBcomedy is now live! Home of the SHIRTS & SKINS, a video I just finished featuring (and written by) Matt Besser (from Walk Hard), Joe Nunez (from Superbad), Matt Walsh (Dog Bites Man) and Sean Conroy (Conan O'Brien.)

It's 3 completely indefensible minutes of body dysmorphia, special effect-enhanced nudity and homoerotic sexual harrasment. And a little basketball. Our budget soared over 200 dollars and every penny is on the screen...

Over 18 only, I guess, and Not Safe For Work, though probably fine where you work.

January 7, 2008
Just finished the post work on a new comedy short for/with The Upright Citizens Brigade. Should go live in a week or so when their new video site launches.

ALSO: My co-conspirator Syd's finally posted our infamous Somebody Goofed movie to the youtubes. Remember we did this way back when this kind of thing was still difficult...

December 11, 2007
The indominatable TULSA OVERGROUND dug deep and found my little-seen cut-up EYEWITNESS ANTS. With a line-up like this, it's my favorite festival in the world. If you're anywhere near Oklahoma, go.

November 26, 2007
Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sure your long weekend was awesome but it wasn't like ours. Highlights and Lowlights were both pretty spectacular - - - won't bore with you the bad stuff, but Buffy sang before dessert!

November 15, 2007
THE VERY FUNNY SHOW is live at TBS.com.

It's a 10 (plus!) episode series created by Matt Besser of the Upright Citizens Brigade and featuring a Who's Who of LA's funniest performers. About half of them were put in my hands so check 'em out.

November 9th, 2007
Not that anyone ever went to a movie because of the guy who animated the still photos in it (in this case, me), but Chris and Don, A Love Story by the good people at ASPHALT STARS- Guido Santi and Tina Mascara, plays at the AFI Fest this weekend. It's a one of a kind romance that spans Hollywood Glamor and the Weimar Republic.

October 24, 2007
Shot (most of) a new video with members of the UCB and am knee deep in post. Details forthcoming.....

ITEM: It'll probably be revised again shortly, but the DIRECTOR REEL has been updated; click over to the 'movies' page for the latest version

Here's a blast from the past. An old spec spot me and Syd did back in Miami for Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap.

This one features our old friend Lionel Goldbart, an amazing poet/musician/etcetera who's been feeling a little under the weather lately.

August 1, 2007
New DVD's finished, and it's full of clips too hot for the internets.

Item: Just had the distinction of being asked by San Francisco's own Danny Plotnick to be a guest on his stellar podcast Nest of Vipers Check over there in a week or so if you want to hear me swap stories of failure and humiliation with some very good company.

July 20, 2007
Lots of catching up to do. Today Boing Boing featured a (very nice) article about Syd and my Titanic movie. The video's approaching 300,000 hits on youtube, which is cool- but the real fun comes from the haters...

I am sorry but what the heck were you thinking? This really wasn't good James Camerons was wayyy better sorry!

it sucked hell!!!TItanic is the best movie ever so don't make fun of it!

lol there IS something wrong with this...in the beggining it showes the titanic right?(animated)but...the 4th smoke pillar was just for show...and in this it showes smoke comming out of it...you need to reasearch more people

May 4, 2007
Currently in the home stretch shooting and editing 5 episodes of a new video project for/with Matt Besser of the Upright Citizens Brigade. The show's scheduled to go up on TBS.com before too long. Did I mention they were very funny?
April, 2007
Not a lot of new stuff posted recently, I've been spending most of my time at HBO's comedy web-video thingamabobber, This Just In. a site where the time between conception of the project and posting the final can be often be measured in hours, which is pretty awesome. The videos fly out pretty fast and go out to the world without credits or anything, so feel free to guess which ones I had my finger in...

Meanwhile work continues on animation for a documentary feature, and lots of shooting on a new serialized comedy project - watch this space for news...

February 27, 2007

By popular demand, they'll be an encore presentation of The Wally George Show this Friday, the 23rd at the UCB Theater in Hollywood. I've got a pair of videos in the show that I made with Eric Nordhauser, Josh Fadem ,Eva Anderson and a cast of about 18 superstars.

Valentine's day, 2007
Lots of things going on, just nothing that immediately translates into videos to post. So...um...in the meantime...I guess I'm thinking about seeing Ghost Rider, seeing as how it's named after one of my favorite songs and all.

Completed a new 60's styled opening title sequence for a TV pilot (using custom illustrations by Miami's reknowned Postergirl aka Kristen Thiele) and did a little work for John from Cincinatti, the new HBO show from the Deadwood team. That one's gonna be good.

The Buckethead video's going to be playing at the Tulsa Overground Festival this Saturday, the 9th. July 4th, 2006
One more blast of Jack Chick madness and then, I promise, we'll give it a rest and move on. Friday night at 7pm is Pin Up Chicks - an actual JTC-inspired Fine Art show at the Retropia Gallery.

And Saturday night at midnight is an encore screening of Hot Chicks at The Vista Theater in Hollywood as part of this year's Outfest where I have to imagine it will be a love it/hate it kind of a screening.

June 20th, 2006

June 15th, 2006
Check out Anxious Animation! A new DVD from my friends at Other Cinema featuring a bloc of videos by 'Rodney & Syd' and 'Syd & Eric.' There's a pretty thoughtful review of it over at The Onion's AV Club, and I guess it's pretty easy to see why they just credited everything to the three of us, but for the record 'Somebody Goofed' is me and Syd's, the other two are Syd & Eric's.

Update: Another review is in. This one from The New York Times!

June 13th, 2006
Well ...this is a first. Some young fans have created a remake of the Buckethead video!
May 25, 2006

Danger!
Curated by the shadowy 'Black Smoke Organisation,' and produced in association with Greenpeace, The Danger Global Warming project is the type of public-spirited project I don't typically participate in. Still, the BSO was persuasive and accepted my image even though it was pretty off-message. And if you check out the gallery, you'll stumble across entries by all-stars including Philippe Starck, Traci Lords, and Alex Cox .
February 24, 2006

A new spot for Fight Night Round 3 starts airing today. Of course if you're a big fan of WWE RAW , or the The Daily Show , or, well, television , you've probably already seen it. It's the one where a boxer is punched out so hard he dreams he's in a little rowboat.

Update: A quicktime is now posted on the 'movies' page.

February 15, 2006

Faithful old Buddha Bar screens at Webfilm at Available Light in Ottawa. From the program- "inspired by the accessibility and availability of digital filmmaking equipment, the Internet has enabled a new generation of artists to create and distribute their work on a shoestring budget. These "DIY" filmmakers skillfully mold their storytelling and artistic techniques around slow connection speeds and short viewer attention spans. The result is an original style and form that is unique to this genre of filmmaking."
